1Hem ate apo archau, hem akouanē, hem horanē toi ofthalmoi nu, hem theasena kai tais cheirais nu psēlafala, peri tou logou tau zōauThat which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our own eyes, which we have gazed upon and touched with our own hands — this is the Word of life. 2kai tas zōas fanerita, kai horanē kai marturanō kai apangelanō vi tan zōan tan aiōnian hotinas ate pros ton patron kai fanerita niAnd this is the life that was revealed; we have seen it and testified to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life that was with the Father and was revealed to us. 3hem horanē kai akouanē apangelanō ⸀kai vi, hina kai vis koinōnian echaveiō meta nu; kai tas koinōnias de tas hēmeteras meta tou patrou kai meta tou huiou autou Iēsu Christou;We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And this fellowship of ours is with the Father and with His Son, Jesus Christ. 4kai houteim grafanō ⸀nis hina tas charas nu ateiō plērorēntas.We write these things so that our joy may be complete.
5Kai atō houtas tas angelias han akouanē apo autou kai anangelanō vi, hoti tos theos fōtem atō kai skotias ⸂en auto ouk atō⸃ oudenas.And this is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you: God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. 6ean leganeia hoti koinōnian echanō meta autou kai en te skote peripataneiō, pseudonō kai ouk poianō tan alētheian;If we say we have fellowship with Him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7ean de en te fōte peripataneiō hōs autos atō en te fōte, koinōnian echanō meta allēloiu kai tem haimem ⸀Iēsu tou huiou autou katharizatō nin apo pantau hamartau.But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. 8ean leganeia hoti hamartan ouk echanō, heautoin plananō kai tas alētheias ⸂ouk atō en ni.⸃If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9ean homologaneiō tain hamartain nu, pistos atō kai dikaios hina afiēkateia ni tain hamartain kai katharizateia nin apo pantau adikiau.If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10ean leganeia hoti ouk hamartanē, pseuston poianō auton kai tos logos autou ouk atō en ni.If we say we have not sinned, we make Him out to be a liar, and His word is not in us.
