1 John 3 Iōannou A 3
1horavar potapan agapan dōatē ni tos patros hina tekneim theou kalineia, ⸂kai anō.⸃ dia houtem tos kosmos ouk gnōskatō ⸀nin hoti ouk gnōskata auton.Behold what manner of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God. And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know Him. 2agapētoir, nun tekneim theou anō, kai oupō fanerita tinem eni. ⸀oidanē hoti ean faneriteia homoiois auto eni, hoti horeni auton kathōs atō.Beloved, we are now children of God, and what we will be has not yet been revealed. We know that when Christ appears, we will be like Him, for we will see Him as He is. 3kai pantos tos echarōntos tan elpidan houtan epi auto hagnizatō heauton kathōs ekeinos hagnos atō.And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as Christ is pure.
4Pantos tos poiarōntos tan hamartan kai tan anomian poiatō, kai tas hamartas atō tas anomias.Everyone who practices sin practices lawlessness as well. Indeed, sin is lawlessness. 5kai oidavē hoti ekeinos fanerita hina tain ⸀hamartain airateia, kai hamartas en auto ouk atō.But you know that Christ appeared to take away sins, and in Him there is no sin. 6pantos tos en auto menarōntos ouk hamartatō; pantos tos hamartarōntos ouk horatē auton oude gnōskatē auton. No one who remains in Him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has seen Him or known Him. 7teknieim, mēdenos planatōr vin; tos poiarōntos tan dikaiosunan dikaios atō, kathōs ekeinos dikaios atō;Little children, let no one deceive you: The one who practices righteousness is righteous, just as Christ is righteous. 8tos poiarōntos tan hamartan ek tou diabolou atō, hoti apo archau tos diabolos hamartatō. eis houtem fanerita tos huios tou theou hina luateia teim ergeim tou diabolou. The one who practices sin is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the very start. This is why the Son of God was revealed, to destroy the works of the devil. 9pantos tos gennorēntos ek tou theou hamartan ouk poiatō, hoti spermem autou en auto menatō, kai ouk dunotō hamartarō, hoti ek tou theou gennotē.Anyone born of God refuses to practice sin, because God’s seed abides in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God. 10en houte fanereim atō teim tekneim tou theou kai teim tekneim tou diabolou; pantos tos mē poiarōntos dikaiosunan ouk atō ek tou theou, kai tos mē agaparōntos ton adelfon autou.By this the children of God are distinguished from the children of the devil: Anyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is anyone who does not love his brother.
11Hoti houtas atō tas angelias han akouava apo archau, hina agapaneiō allēloin; This is the message you have heard from the beginning: We should love one another. 12ouk kathōs Kain ek tou ponērou ate kai sfazata ton adelfon autou; kai charin tineu sfazata auton? hoti teim ergeim autou ponēreim ate, teim de tou adelfou autou dikaieim.Do not be like Cain, who belonged to the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did Cain slay him? Because his own deeds were evil, while those of his brother were righteous. 13⸀mē thaumazavōr, ⸀adelfoir, ei misatō vin tos kosmos. So do not be surprised, brothers, if the world hates you. 14nis oidanē hoti metabainanē ek tou thanatou eis tan zōan, hoti agapanō toin adelfoin; tos mē ⸀agaparōntos menatō en to thanato. We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love our brothers. The one who does not love remains in death. 15pantos tos misarōntos ton adelfon autou anthrōpoktonos atō, kai oidavē hoti pantos anthrōpoktonos ouk echatō zōan aiōnian en ⸀auto menarōntan.Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that eternal life does not reside in a murderer. 16en houte gnōskanē tan agapan, hoti ekeinos huper nu tan psuchan autou tithata; kai nis ofeilanō huper toiu adelfoiu tain psuchain ⸀tithara.By this we know what love is: Jesus laid down His life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. 17hos de an echateiō ton bion tou kosmou kai theōrateiō ton adelfon autou chreian echarōnton kai kleiateia teim splanchneim autou apo autou, pōs tas agapas tou theou menatō en auto?If anyone with earthly possessions sees his brother in need, but withholds his compassion from him, how can the love of God abide in him?
18⸀Teknieim, mē agapaneiō logo mēde ta glōssa alla en erge kai alētheia.Little children, let us love not in word and speech, but in action and truth. 19⸀en houte ⸀gnōskeni hoti ek tau alētheiau anō, kai emprosthen autou peithani ⸂tan kardian⸃ nuAnd by this we will know that we belong to the truth, and will assure our hearts in His presence: 20hoti ean katagnōskateiō nu tas kardias, hoti megoteros atō tos theos tau kardiau nu kai gnōskatō panteim.Even if our hearts condemn us, God is greater than our hearts, and He knows all things. 21agapētoir, ean tas kardias ⸂mē katagnōskateiō nu,⸃ parrēsian echanō pros ton theon,Beloved, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God, 22kai hem ⸀ean aitaneiō labanō ⸀apo autou, hoti tain entolain autou tēranō kai teim aresteim enōpion autou poianō.and we will receive from Him whatever we ask, because we keep His commandments and do what is pleasing in His sight. 23kai houtas atō tas entolas autou, hina ⸀pisteuaneia te onome tou huiou autou Iēsu Christou kai agapaneiō allēloin, kathōs dōata entolan ⸀ni.And this is His commandment: that we should believe in the name of His Son, Jesus Christ, and we should love one another just as He commanded us. 24kai tos tērarōntos tain entolain autou en auto menatō kai autos en auto; kai en houte gnōskanō hoti menatō en ni, ek teu pneumeu heu ni dōata.Whoever keeps His commandments remains in God, and God in him. And by this we know that He remains in us: by the Spirit He has given us.
