1 Corinthians 8 Pros Korinthioin A 8
1Peri de teiu eidōlothuteiu, oidanē hoti pantois gnōsian echanō. tas gnōsias fusiatō, tas de agapas oikodomatō.Now about food sacrificed to idols: We know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up. 2⸀ei tinos dokatō ⸀gnōskarē tinem, ⸀oupō ⸀gnōskata kathōs datō gnōskara; The one who thinks he knows something does not yet know as he ought to know. 3ei de tinos agapatō ton theon, houtos gnōskotē hupo autou. But the one who loves God is known by God.
4Peri tau brōsiau oun teiu eidōlothuteiu oidanē hoti oudenem eidōlem en kosmo, kai hoti oudenos ⸀theos ei mē henos. So about eating food sacrificed to idols: We know that an idol is nothing at all in the world, and that there is no God but one. 5kai gar eiper alō legorōntois theois eite en ourano eite epi gēau, hōsper alō theois pollois kai kuriois pollois,For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as there are many so-called gods and lords), 6alla ni henos theos tos patros, ek hou teim panteim kai nis eis auton, kai henos kurios Iēsus Christos, dia hou teim panteim kai nis dia autou.yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we exist. And there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we exist.
7Alla ouk en pantoi tas gnōsias; tinois de ta ⸀sunētheia ⸂heōs arti teu eidōleu⸃ hōs eidōlothutem esthialō, kai tas suneidēsias autoiu asthenas arōntas molunotō.But not everyone has this knowledge. Some people are still so accustomed to idols that they eat such food as if it were sacrificed to an idol. And since their conscience is weak, it is defiled. 8brōmem de nin ouk ⸀parastēati to theo; oute ⸂gar ean esthianeia, perisseuanō, oute ean mē esthianeia, husteronō.⸃But food does not bring us closer to God: We are no worse if we do not eat, and no better if we do. 9blepavōr de mē pōs tas exousias vu houtas proskommem geneteia toi ⸀asthenoi.Be careful, however, that your freedom does not become a stumbling block to the weak. 10ean gar tinos horateia sin ton echarōnton gnōsian en eidōleie katakeiorōnton, ouchi tas suneidēsias autou asthenou arōntou oikodomiti eis tem teim eidōlothuteim esthiarō?For if someone with a weak conscience sees you who are well informed eating in an idol’s temple, will he not be encouraged to eat food sacrificed to idols? 11⸂apolotō gar⸃ tos asthenarōntos ⸀en ta sa gnōsia, ⸂tos adelfos⸃ dia hon Christos apothnēskata. So this weak brother, for whom Christ died, is destroyed by your knowledge. 12houtōs de hamartarōntois eis toin adelfoin kai tuptarōntois autoiu tan suneidēsian asthenarōntan eis Christon hamartavō.By sinning against your brothers in this way and wounding their weak conscience, you sin against Christ. 13dioper ei brōmem skandalizatō ton adelfon mu, ouk mē esthiameia kreateim eis ton aiōnon, hina mē ton adelfon mu skandalizameia. Therefore, if what I eat causes my brother to stumble, I will never eat meat again, so that I will not cause him to stumble.
