1Gnōrizanō de vi, adelfoir, tan charitan tou theou tan dōorēntan en tai ekklēsai tau Makedoniau,Now, brothers, we want you to know about the grace that God has given the churches of Macedonia. 2hoti en polla dokima thlipsiau tas perisseias tau charau autoiu kai tas kata batheu ptōcheias autoiu perisseuata eis ⸂tem ploutem⸃ tau haplotau autoiu; In the terrible ordeal they suffered, their abundant joy and deep poverty overflowed into rich generosity. 3hoti kata dunamian, marturamō, kai ⸀para dunamian, authairetoisFor I testify that they gave according to their ability and even beyond it. Of their own accord, 4meta pollau paraklēsiau dorōntois nu, tan charitan kai tan koinōnian tau diakoniau tau eis toin hagiointhey earnestly pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the saints. 5kai ouk kathōs elpizana alla heautoin dōala prōtem to kurio kai ni dia thelēmeu theou,And not only did they do as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then to us, through the will of God. 6eis tem parakalara nin Titon hina kathōs proenarcheta houtōs kai epitelateia eis vin kai tan charitan houtan; So we urged Titus to help complete your act of grace, just as he had started it. 7alla hōsper en pante perisseuavō, pistia kai logo kai gnōsia kai panta spouda kai ta ek ⸂nu en vi⸃ agapa, hina kai en houta ta charita perisseuaveiō.But just as you excel in everything — in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness, and in the love we inspired in you — see that you also excel in this grace of giving.
8Ouk kata epitagan legamō alla dia tau heteroiu spoudau kai tem tau humeterau agapau gnēsiem dokimazarōntos;I am not giving a command, but I am testing the sincerity of your love through the earnestness of others. 9gnōskavō gar tan charitan tou kuriou nu Iēsu Christou, hoti dia vin ptōcheuata plousios arōntos, hina vis ta ekeinou ptōcheia ploutaveia. For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, so that you through His poverty might become rich. 10kai gnōman en houte dōamō; houtem gar vi sumferatō, hotinois ouk monem tem poiara alla kai tem thelarō proenarcheva apo perusin; And this is my opinion about what is helpful for you in this matter: Last year you were the first not only to give, but even to have such a desire. 11nuni de kai tem poiara epitelavar, hopōs kathaper tas prothumias teu thelarō houtōs kai tem epitelara ek teu echarō.Now finish the work, so that you may complete it with the same eager desire, according to your means. 12ei gar tas prothumias prokeiotō, katho ean ⸀echateiō euprosdektas, ouk katho ouk echatō.For if the eagerness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what he does not have. 13ouk gar hina allosoi anesias, ⸀vi thlipsias; alla ek isotauIt is not our intention that others may be relieved while you are burdened, but that there may be equality. 14en to nun kairo tem vu perisseumem eis tem ekeinoiu husterēmem, hina kai tem ekeinoiu perisseumem geneteia eis tem vu husterēmem, hopōs geneteia isotas; At the present time, your surplus will meet their need, so that in turn their surplus will meet your need. This way there will be equality. 15kathōs grafotē; Tos tem pollem ouk pleonazata, kai tos tem oligem ouk elattonata. As it is written: “He who gathered much had no excess, and he who gathered little had no shortfall.”
