So too, the rich man will fade away in the midst of his pursuits.
12Makarios andros hos hupomenatō peirasmon, hoti dokimos generantos labeti ton stefanon tau zōau, hon ⸀epangeleta toi agaparōntoi auton.Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him. 13mēdenos peirazorōntos legatōr hoti Apo theou peirazomō; tos gar theos apeirastos atō kakoseiu, peirazatō de autos oudenon. When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He tempt anyone. 14hekastos de peirazotō hupo tau idiau epithumiau exelkorōntos kai deleazorōntos; But each one is tempted when by his own evil desires he is lured away and enticed. 15eita tas epithumias sullabarantas tiktatō hamartan, tas de hamartas apotelirantas apokuatō thanaton. Then after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death. 16mē planovōr, adelfoir mu agapētoir.Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers.
17Pantas dosias agathas kai pantem dōrēmem teleiem anōthen atō, katabainarōntem apo tou patrou teiu fōteiu, para ho ouk eniatō parallagas ē tropau aposkiasmem.Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, with whom there is no change or shifting shadow. 18boulirantos apokuata nin logo alētheiau, eis tem arō nin aparchan tinan teiu autou ktismeiu. He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we would be a kind of firstfruits of His creation.
19⸀Oidavēr, adelfoir mu agapētoir. atōr ⸀de pantos anthrōpos tachuos eis tem akouara, braduos eis tem lalara, braduos eis organ,My beloved brothers, understand this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger, 20orgas gar androu dikaiosunan theou ⸂ouk ergazotō.⸃for man’s anger does not bring about the righteousness that God desires. 21dio apotitherantois pantan ruparian kai perisseian kakiau en prauta dechevar ton emfuton logon ton dunorōnton sōzara tain psuchain vu.Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and every expression of evil, and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save your souls.
22Genovōr de poiētois logou kai mē ⸂akroatois monem⸃ paralogizorōntois heautoin.Be doers of the word, and not hearers only. Otherwise, you are deceiving yourselves. 23hoti ei tinos akroatos logou atō kai ouk poiētos, houtos eoikatē andro katanoarōnto tem prosōpem tau genesiau autou en esoptre,For anyone who hears the word but does not carry it out is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror, 24katanoata gar heauton kai aperchatē kai eutheōs epilatheta hopoios ate.and after observing himself goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25tos de parakuptarantos eis nomon teleion ton tau eleutheriau kai paramenarantos, ⸀ouk akroatos epilēsmonau generantos alla poiētos ergeu, houtos makarios en ta poiēsia autou eti.But the one who looks intently into the perfect law of freedom, and continues to do so — not being a forgetful hearer, but an effective doer — he will be blessed in what he does.
26Ei tinos dokatō thrēskos ⸀arō mē chalinagōgarōntos glōssan ⸀autou alla apatarōntos kardian ⸀autou, houtou mataias tas thrēskeias. If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not bridle his tongue, he deceives his heart and his religion is worthless. 27thrēskeias katharas kai amiantas para ⸀to theo kai patro houtas atō, episkeptorō orfanoin kai chērain en ta thlipsia autoiu, aspilon heauton tērarō apo tou kosmou.Pure and undefiled religion before our God and Father is this: to care for orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
